Welcome to Waynesboro Running, Inc., or as we’re more commonly referred to, CFAR (Community, Fitness, Fun, Friends and Running). CFAR is a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt, nonprofit corporation established in 2009 to promote the sport of running in our community. Many CFAR members attest to the transformational power of running and want the greater community to experience the same benefits they’ve received since engaging the sport.
CFAR has grown by leaps and bounds since the spring of 2008 when a small group of area runners ran as “Team SALAMANDER” in Renfrew Institute’s inaugural “5K Salamander Scramble” (in conjunction with the “Waynesboro Summer Jubilee Firecracker 5K”). Today, CFAR’s membership includes not only runners from PA and MD, but as far away as NJ.
CFAR is open to all runners, regardless of age, ability and experience. There is no application or membership fee to join, simply show up for one of our weekly events. Our most popular are Saturday morning group runs. Runners typically group by interest and ability and depart from the Waynesboro YMCA (no affiliation) parking lot at 7 AM. During the spring and summer speed training is held Thursday evenings at the Waynesboro Area High School track. CFAR’s monthly meetings are held the last Thursday of the month at the Waynesboro YMCA.
Winning races and setting personal records are important, but they are secondary to good health. Nevertheless, the competition of racing is a great motivator for many to reach their potential. Members are encouraged to enter local road races, marathons and ultra-marathons. CFAR does not subsidize the cost of these races, but rather provides information, encouragement, and moral support.
All are welcome, please join us at our next weekly event!
